2013 Boat Show

Good day spent at the RYA Dinghy Show. Although I would have much preferred to have spent my time manning a Farr 3.7 show stand. But there is always next year!

The day was very useful never the less spent building contacts and finding new and interesting dinghy products. The best of which was Marlow Ropes new DM20 fibre, marketed as M-Rig. This is a dynemma fibre with NO creep and is designed for standing rigging. And deals with the issues that SK75, SK78 and SK78 Max have (in decreasing amounts) of creep over time. I full expect to be using this on my Farr. I expect I may also be replacing the current Intermediate shrouds with this new fibre. As I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be losing a little power after replacing the corroded broken wire inters with the current rope. 

Congratulations

Well done to Mark O'Brien for his success at the 2013 Farr 3.7 Nationals. Held at Manly Sailing Club New Zealand. 4 bullets in a row sealed his victory. Of note is the fact that his boat is sail number 176 showing that the 3.7 has a very long competitive lifespan.

The UK almost has a set of Male and Female Farr 3.7's! (NZ boats are Male apparently!) Dave Baker is getting on really well with his boat. Winter home

I got the 3.7 back from its extended stay at Draycote Water Sailing Club this weekend. (Thanks Dave for bringing Him down.) Where it has been since late September, as a test sail boat. Dave Barker has given it a good sail in some breezy conditions. As well as a couple of other test sailors. Not as many as I would have liked. But I think the fact hat it was up there at the end of the season and that those that had shown earlier interest seem to have moved on mass into Foiling Moths, means there was less take up than I expected.

'He' is now safely pack up for the winter. I will be doing a few jobs on him over this time; including mending the C-Tech tiller extension and re-progriping. As well as replacing the stainless standing rigging with SK-78 Max. And then I'll be concentrating on sailing Him myself next year. So watch out for lots of splash video sequences as I battle with the shifty Burghfield Sailing Club wind!
